Trent Grisham hit solo homers in consecutive at-bats, Carlos Rodon pitched 5 2/3 innings and the host New York Yankees salvaged the finale of a four-game series with a 7-2 victory over the visiting Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.

The Yankees ended an eight-game losing streak to the Red Sox and moved a half-game behind Boston for the AL’s top wild-card spot. New York also avoided getting swept in a series of at least four games at home by Boston for the first time since July 7-9, 1939, in Ted Williams’ rookie season.

Grisham went deep in the third and fifth innings off Boston starter Dustin May. He is 3-for-17 off the right-hander with all three hits being home runs.

Grisham’s sixth career multi-homer game and fourth this season helped Rodon (14-7) win his third straight start.

The left-hander allowed only one hit — a single to Alex Bregman in the first — but also tied a season high with five walks. He was aided by double plays in the third and fifth but issued three walks in the sixth and was replaced by Luke Weaver.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. blasted a pair of two-run homers for the Yankees, who are 2-8 in the season series with Boston. Chisholm had his eighth career multi-homer game and his drive in the eighth off Walker Buehler gave the Yankees a 7-2 lead.

Giancarlo Stanton had two hits, including a double in the fourth that was his 1,600th career hit. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Caballero, who started at shortstop for the struggling Anthony Volpe.

Nathaniel Lowe had a pinch-hit two-run single off Weaver in the sixth as the Red Sox were held to five hits after getting 17 in Saturday’s 12-1 romp.

May (7-10) allowed five runs on five hits 4 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked three.

Following a base hit by Stanton, the Yankees went up 2-0 in the second inning when Chisholm lifted an 0-1 fastball into the right field seats. Grisham started the third by lifting 1-0 pitch into the right field seats.

Grisham made it 5-0 in the fifth by blasting a 1-0 offering into the right-center field seats for a 413-foot drive.

Rodon threw 37 pitches in the sixth and issued walks to Romy Gonzalez, Bregman and Trevor Story. He exited after walking Story on a pitch he thought was strike three, and Weaver struck out Jarren Duran.

Devin Williams fanned two in the eighth and Camilo Doval finished up.
