Nottingham, England – Nottingham Forest moved up to sixth place in the Premier League standings with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town at the City Ground on Saturday.
The match-winning goal came in the 50th minute when New Zealand international Chris Wood converted a penalty kick, becoming Nottingham Forest’s joint-top goal scorer in the Premier League with 24 goals, equaling the record set by Bryan Roy.
Wood’s eighth league goal of the season was the difference between the two sides, as Nottingham Forest bounced back from their recent defeat to secure all three points. The result sees them level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea, while Ipswich remain in the relegation zone after the loss.
Ipswich had their chances in the first half, with Cameron Burgess‘ header cleared off the line by Forest defender Ola Aina, and Omari Hutchinson forcing a good save from goalkeeper Matz Sels. However, the visitors were unable to find the breakthrough, and Nottingham Forest took control after the break.
The home side were awarded a penalty when Sammie Szmodics brought down Jota Silva, and Wood stepped up to confidently dispatch the spot-kick, putting Nottingham Forest ahead. Ipswich struggled to mount a meaningful response in the second half, managing just one shot on target as they fell to defeat.
The result marks a significant moment for Chris Wood, who has now matched the club’s Premier League goalscoring record, and a crucial three points for Nottingham Forest as they continue their push for a top-half finish in the league.
