The hearing into the Premier League’s charges against Manchester City over alleged financial rule breaches has concluded, according to reports.
The club was accused of 115 breaches, later increased to 130, related to the inaccurate reporting of finances over a 14-year period from 2009-10 to 2017-18.
The hearing, which took place at London’s International Dispute Resolution Centre, saw both parties make their closing arguments.
A three-person panel will now deliberate on the evidence before delivering a verdict, which is expected to take several months due to the scale of the case.
If found guilty, Manchester City could face severe penalties, including heavy financial fines and potential points deductions or even relegation, though the club has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and stated they have “irrefutable evidence” to exonerate themselves.
The investigation into Manchester City’s finances was launched after the publication of leaked documents in German magazine Der Spiegel in 2018. The charges also allege the club failed to cooperate fully with the Premier League’s investigation.
With the hearing now concluded, the football world awaits the panel’s decision, which could have significant implications for the reigning Premier League champions. Manchester City have stated they are “looking forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
