The Kansas City Royals’ series opener against the visiting Cleveland Guardians was postponed Friday due to inclement weather.

Instead, Kansas City and Cleveland will take the field for a split doubleheader Saturday. Game 1 will begin at 1:40 p.m. CT, with the nightcap following at 6:15 p.m.

The clubs’ updated pitching plans were not yet known. The Guardians planned to start Gavin Williams (6-4, 3.54 ERA) on Friday opposite the Royals’ Michael Wacha (4-9, 3.62).

The rivals are second and third in the American League Central entering the weekend. The Guardians are 51-51, eight games back of first-place Detroit, and the Royals are 50-53 (9 1/2 games out of first).
