Guardians prospect Travis Bazzana (oblique) out 8-10 weeks

Cleveland Guardians prospect Travis Bazzana, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft, will be sidelined 8-10 weeks with a right internal oblique strain.

The 22-year-old Australian second baseman reported soreness in his right side after swinging the bat in Double-A Akron’s game at Chesapeake on May 14. An MRI confirmed the oblique injury.

Bazzana will return to the team facilities in Goodyear, Ariz., to begin his injury rehab.

Bazzana is batting .252 with four homers, 17 RBIs, 29 runs and eight stolen bases in 33 games this season at Akron.

He appeared in 27 games at High-A Lake County in 2024 after being drafted out of Oregon State, hitting .238 with three home runs, 12 RBIs and 20 runs.
