Fenerbahce Coach Mourinho Handed 4-Match Ban for Controversial Comments

Fenerbahce’s head coach Jose Mourinho has been slapped with a four-match ban and a fine of over 40,000 euros by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) for his controversial remarks made after a heated Istanbul derby against rivals Galatasaray earlier this week.

The 62-year-old Portuguese tactician was found guilty of making comments that were “contrary to sporting ethics” by the TFF’s disciplinary council.

Mourinho had accused the Galatasaray bench of “jumping like monkeys” after Monday’s 0-0 draw, and also reportedly repeated his long-standing criticism of Turkish referees.

Fenerbahce, who trail league leaders Galatasaray by 6 points, said Mourinho’s comments were taken out of context. However, the TFF handed down a two-match suspension for his remarks against the fourth official, and an additional two-match ban for his outburst at the Galatasaray bench.

The outspoken manager was also fined 42,000 euros as part of the disciplinary action. This latest incident is the latest in a series of controversies involving Mourinho during his time in the Turkish Süper Lig.
