Barcelona Faces Potential Free Transfer Loss of Dani Olmo in January

Dani Olmo

Barcelona could be at risk of losing their summer signing Dani Olmo for free in January if they fail to raise the necessary funds to register the player for the second half of the season, according to reports.

Olmo, who joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig on a six-year deal, was one of the standout performers for Spain during their triumphant Euro 2024 campaign. The 26-year-old midfielder has made a promising start to his Barcelona career, scoring six goals in 12 appearances so far this season.

However, Barcelona’s well-documented financial issues have once again come to the forefront, as the club struggles to register Olmo for the full season. It has been reported that the player is currently only registered for the first half of the campaign, and Barcelona must find a way to secure his services for the remainder of the season.

The report suggests that there may be a clause in Olmo’s contract that allows him to leave the club for free if he is not registered for the second half of the season. This would be a significant blow for Barcelona, who invested £51 million to bring the Spanish international to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona has been exploring various avenues to raise funds, including a partnership with their hospitality provider Aramark, which reportedly generated around £34 million. The club has also been reported to be considering selling VIP box rights for the next 20 years in an effort to generate the necessary revenue.

President Joan Laporta has previously stated that there will be no issues in registering Olmo, but this is not the first time Barcelona has faced such challenges. Previously, the club was forced to part ways with club legend Lionel Messi due to the league’s salary cap restrictions.

As the January transfer window approaches, Barcelona will be under immense pressure to find a solution to their financial woes and ensure that Olmo remains at the club for the second half of the season. Failure to do so could result in a significant setback for the team’s ambitions both on and off the field.
