U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper Matt Turner is heading from the Premier League’s Nottingham Forest to French side Lyon on a transfer fee of more than $9 million.

Turner, 30, spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Crystal Palace, part of a squad that claimed its first major trophy at the FA Cup in May.

Turner had been looking for a new opportunity after making only four appearances — none in the Premier League — for Crystal Palace.

USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed concern about Turner’s lack of playing time last month, declaring that the starting netminder job was open.

Matt Freese of New York City FC started Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Turkey in a friendly in East Hartford, Conn.

Turner has earned 51 caps with the U.S. squad, including four starts at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Turner appeared in goal for the New England Revolution in MLS from 2018-22 before joining Arsenal in 2022 and Nottingham Forest in 2023.
