The New York Giants Have To Be Eyeing a Quarterback in Round 2, Right?

So, the Giants are doing homework on what they will be doing with their second-round pick, No. 34 overall, right?

Penn State’s Abdul Carter has been the popular option to the Giants in mock drafts published this week. New York has spent a lot of resources on its defensive line through the draft, and after signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, they seem pretty unlikely to draft a quarterback in that spot.

At this stage in the NFL Draft process, it would feel like a surprise if the Giants elected to draft anybody besides Carter or Heisman winner Travis Hunter in their first-round slot. Despite what some might be reporting, they have to be eyeing a quarterback in the second round, right?

For starters, there’s no way they’re passing up on potential all-world talents in Carter and Hunter. But more importantly, they added two somewhat respected free-agent veterans just last month. Wilson has won a Super Bowl. Winston set franchise passing records for the Browns last season.

But both of those quarterbacks come with their noted flaws, which is why they’re both on short-term deals. It’s also why you could see the Giants taking Sanders, a safe, somewhat NFL-ready quarterback who has incredible accuracy and an intangible aura. Or you could see them drafting and developing a player like Milroe, who has incredible upside.

If these quarterbacks slide as far as some might think, the Giants could confidently draft their franchise signal-caller in the second round while acquiring the best defensive line prospect in this class in one fell swoop.
